Renovated Kominka in Otsu
Kominka Life
with Mountain & Lake
Drive about 40 minutes to the east from the center of Kyoto city, get off the Nishi-Otsu Bypass Road (free highway) at the "Shigasato Ramp" and you will reach Sakamoto, a historic town at the foot of Mt. Hiei.
A town with a traditional atmosphere that has a history as the town of "Satobo", a retreat for monks who trained on Mt. Hiei, also preserving the scenery of the "Anoshuzumi" stone walls.
The refreshing breeze that blows down from the mountains, Lake Biwa that shines on the water surface...
Introducing a renovated "Kominka" old folk house in a cityscape where you can feel the magnificent natural scenery and history.
Plan
Renovated
in 2019
After passing under the deep eaves that feature a Kominka, you will find an entrance hall with a double-height ceiling at the back of the door.
The west side of the building inherits the atmosphere of an old folk house, with a Japanese-style room on the 1st floor and a spacious Western-style room with exposed beams on the 2nd floor.
On the east side of the building, there is a bright and modern Living-Dining-Kitchen area with a courtyard, and a bathroom that overviews the garden.

Sakamoto,
a town full of
historical romance
Located at the foot of Mt. Hiei, Sakamoto is said to be the place of Shinto and Buddhist training where Enryakuji Temple and Hiyoshi-Taisha Shrine are located. In the old days of Nobunaga, many masonry craftsmen known as "Ano-shu" who had paid an important role in constructing castles settled here, leaving a number of precious stone walls called "Anoshuzumi" in the area.
