Kominka in Kumogahata,
the Source of Kamo River
The gentle flow of the Kamo River winds its way through Kyoto City. Following its upstream course leads to Kumogahata, a secluded village surrounded by mountains. This area is said to have been settled by "Somabito" - woodworkers who made their livelihood in forestry - during the construction of the Heian Capital.
Kumogahata is a land that has nurtured and preserved its lush forests for over a millennium. We are pleased to introduce a traditional Kominka nestled in this hidden village, located at the source of the Kamo River.
※Somabito: People who engaged in forestry as their primary occupation.
