During the Taisho–early Showa periods, many of these traditional district nameplates made of metal decorated with enamel were placed on the streets. We can still see many of these old nameplates, many of which doubled as advertisements for shops and companies. The ones that advertise Jintan mints are especially popular and loved by many people.
